This is the official homepage of Utkanten, the autonomous social center of Malmoe, Sweden. We follow from the former Aktivitetshuset that was closed down in may 2007.
Utkanten is supposed to be an open space for a broad specter of alternative cultural, social and political activities. We take active stand against all sorts of oppression, such as racism, sexism, capitalism, homophobia, heterosexism. We oppose the destruction of the climate and work for a real sustainable society. Therefore we try to limit our consumtion and use as much recycled materiel as we can.
We consider our house as a creative and political freehaven - free from the capitalistic and static society that has invaded and corrupted our lives and tries to smash all our dreams and hopes that anything ever could be different than the present. As different from the rest of society - where all the decisions are taken above our heads, where we are told what to do and not to do, what we can and cannot, where we get fucked with rules and orders and threats if we don´t obey - we can do what we want, have the activites we want in our on terms, we can build up the relations to each other that we want and work against oprresive structures such as racism, sexism etc. In our freehaven we can create what we want and dream the dreams we wanna dream.
The house is based on the autonomous individuals and activitygroups. They rule the house and it´s their self-activity that build up the house. Their freedom are unlimited as long as they don´t violate the freedom or possibilities of any other group or individual.
Utkanten is open for everyone that want´s to work with alternative creative activities. We don´t recognize any limits - except the ones we decide on together.
